Thomas Robinson Architects have transformed a draughty barn into one of Scotlands first EnerPHit certified buildings. Specially conceived for retrofitted or renovated properties the Passivhaus certification for Auchineden takes account of the different challenges to energy efficiency found within older style buildings.

Barrenger Road, London.

Designed by Tate Harmer Architects, this new buildingmeets the Passivhaus design criteria, working within the restrictions of a tight suburban site by introducing substantial glazing to the rear of the property whilst maintaining the look of the existing faade on the street. A central lightwell will ensure that there is excellent daylight and natural ventilation within the deep plan, without overlooking to the surrounding neighbours. This energy efficient new-build home will be a subtle but unique additional to the area.

Bartholomew Barn, Kings Hawford School.

Bartholomew Barn has been built to Saint-Gobain's MULTICOMFORT standard, incorporating the energy efficiency and thermal comfort standards set by Passivhaus and introducing new standards in audio, indoor-air and visual comfort.The MULTICOMFORT design concept is about building and renovating homes, offices, schools, hospitals and other buildings in a way that gives improved comfort, health and wellbeing while protecting the environment. Together with Associated Architects and Speller Metcalfe, we have put our MULTICOMFORT building concept into practice by delivering a multi-purpose sports and drama hall for the Kings School, Worcester.

Beacon View - Dundon Passivhaus

Set at the foot of a wooded hill the house has been designed to make the most of the fantastic views across the Somerset levels. The windows frame different views creating an experiential richness that extends the domain of the interior into the surrounding landscape.The form of the house relates to nearby agricultural buildings rather than the suburban houses in the village. A gently sloping roof extends beyond the building envelope on three sides to create sheltered outdoor spaces that blur the distinction between house and garden. This welcoming, sheltering gesture works in harmony with the energy strategy by providing summer shading to the large windows.Green oak columns support the roof, tied back to the main timber-framed structure which is clad in green oak. The wall construction is vapour permeable to moderate humidity and create a healthy internal atmosphere.

Bicester Eco Business Centre (BEBC)

Bicester Eco Business Centre (BEBC), designed by PHT Patron Architype, is the UK's first commercial building certified to Passivhaus Plus. The 1147m2 building forms a key element of the zero-carbon northwest Bicester Eco Town in Elmsbrook.The centre is one of the principal strategies in creating sustainable employment for the future northwest Bicester community, and the new three-storey building will accommodate 125 workplaces, serving local and start-up businesses.
